Description of Duties
Bell Captain Job Description Position Overview: The Bell Captain plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless experience for guests at the hotel by overseeing the bell staff and managing the bell desk operations. This position is responsible for maintaining high service standards, fostering communication between departments, and ensuring guest satisfaction. Key Responsibilities: Supervision and Staffing: Ensure the bell desk is always staffed and operational. Supervise, train, and mentor bell staff and porters to deliver exceptional service. Create work schedules, assign duties, and conduct performance evaluations. Guest Interaction: Attend promptly to all guest requests related to baggage handling and other bell services. Verify guest satisfaction through follow-up calls after service completion. Provide information to guests about local attractions and hotel services. Baggage Handling: Manage the swift transport of luggage during guest arrivals and departures. Ensure all baggage movements are logged accurately, with proper tagging and inventory management. Fill out errand cards for all baggage transactions (check-in, check-out, left luggage, etc.). Communication and Coordination: Maintain close relationships with reception, housekeeping, and other departments to facilitate smooth operations. Accurately distribute guest messages, letters, and couriers. Ensure that all bills are settled and room keys returned prior to guest departure. Operational Duties: Ensure cleanliness and organization of the bell desk and surrounding areas. Oversee the collection of loan items from guests at check-out. Monitor the delivery of newspapers to occupied rooms and order newspapers as needed. Record Keeping: Maintain and update the luggage movement register daily. Ensure left luggage forms are completed and signed by guests, explaining relevant policies.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; hospitality qualification preferred. Minimum of five years of experience in a bellhop or similar role. Work Environment: The role requires physical stamina as it involves standing for extended periods, walking, and lifting heavy luggage. The Bell Captain interacts with guests and staff throughout the day, making strong interpersonal skills essential.
